A Nigerian boxer, Olanrewaju ‘Success’ Segun has been reported dead after he collapsed during a bout against Ghana’s Jon Mbanugu at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Ghana
Penpushing reports that the sad incident occurred on Saturday March 29, 2025, and despite urgent efforts to revive him, he was unresponsive and was rushed to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The boxer, a former National and West African light-heavyweight champion was competing at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League when he suddenly lost consciousness in the third round.
Penpushing further reports that witnesses described the tragic moment when Olarenwaju collapsed in the ring, prompting an immediate response from the referee, trainers, and medical personnel, while reports indicate that he was ahead on points before the incident occurred.
The sudden collapse of Olanrewaju was captured in a widely circulated video on social media, while an official cause of death has not yet been confirmed as at the time of filing this report.
Penpushing also reports that early speculation suggests a cardiac arrest, and his opponent visibly troubled by the tragic turn of events, has expressed deep condolences to the deceased family and loved ones.
