Nigerian Actor Amaechi Muonagor dies of stroke at 62

A Nigerian actor Amaechi Muonagor has been reported dead at 62, having suffered stroke, kidney disease and diabetes, while it is recalled that he had sought for financial support from his fans in November 2023.

Penpushing reports that Muonagor’s colleague Kingsley Orji, broke the sad news on social media Sunday evening, while it is also recalled that Orji drew the public’s attention to the actor’s plight earlier in the month when he shared a video of Muonagor on his Instagram, explaining that the illness affected his speech.

The cousin of the late actor, Tony ‘Oneweek’ Muonagor, a singer in similar vein, posted a burning candle on his Facebook page, symbolising mourning for someone’s death, while it is on record that the deceased had earlier sought financial assistance from Nigerians and philanthropists for a kidney transplant in India.

Penpushing further reports that Muonagor in November 2023, suffered a stroke and in December 2023, he was diagnosed with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke, while in the same month the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) sought financial support for him.

The National President of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Emeka Rollas, on his Instagram page, pointed out that Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) approved some money to be sent to him from the guild’s trust fund.

Penpushing also reports that Muonagor began his journalism career with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in 1989 before debuting in Nollywood in the early 90s classic, Taboo (part 1), while he was known to be famous for his roles in movies like Taboo (1), Aki and Pawpaw, Karishika, Aki na Ukwa, Igodo, and others.

Meanwhile, the deceased hails from Obosi in Anambra State and it was recalled that he was nominated for the 2017 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Best Actor.
