Nigeria records a feat, as second country to launch Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Centre

Nigeria has taken a major step forward in mental healthcare with the official launch of the Ikeja Specialist Clinic and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Centre, in partnership with United Kingdom (UK)-based Transforming Mind Solutions.

Penpushing reports that the new centre will be  opened on Sunday, October 10, 2025 in Ikeja, Lagos, to mark World Mental Health Day, and will bring Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy to the country for the first time.

The clinic is reflecting a growing national commitment to tackling mental health challenges with modern, evidence-based solutions, and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is affirmed as a safe, non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate targeted areas of the brain.

Penpushing further reports that it is especially effective for people living with treatment-resistant depression, as well as those experiencing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) unlike medication does not rely on chemicals and has minimal side effects, making it a valuable new option for Nigerian patients.

Penpushing also reports that Consultant Psychiatrist and Chief Executive Officer at the Ikeja Specialist Clinic and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Centre Dr. Olufemi Oluwatayo, said the development was a landmark for mental health in Nigeria

“This is a landmark moment for mental health in Nigeria. Too many patients suffer in silence, or without effective treatment, because existing options haven’t worked for them. By introducing TMS here in Lagos, we are offering hope, recovery, and dignity to those who need it most’, he said
