Electoral Commission declares Fintiri winner of Adamawa state governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday declared Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the Governorship election in Adamawa State, having won the supplementary poll with 9,337 votes.

Penpushing reports that the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Prof Mohammed Mele who announced the results said Fintiri defeated his closest rival, Aisha Dahiru, popularly called Binani, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who came second in the poll with 6,513 votes.

The duo remained the major contenders in the governorship race, while the supplementary poll was held in 69 polling units in the 20 local governments in the state, with less than 40,000 eligible voters, while it is recalled that at the 18 March, 2023 governorship poll before it was declared inconclusive, Fintiri was leading with over 30,000 votes.

Penpushing further reports that as at the time the votes for both the main election and the rerun, were counted Fintirin, a sitting Governor polled a total of 430,861 votes while Dahiru candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded 398,788 votes.

The Returning while pronouncing Fintirin, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and incumbent Governor, as winner said he has met the constitutional requirement and thereby returned as governor of the state.

Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that, in a mild drama on Sunday, an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had, declared Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the election but headquarters of the electoral body said the declaration was null and void.
