NATIONAL POPULATION BEGINS AREA ENUMERATION DEMARCATION IN OGUN

 The Commissioner who was represented by the State Director, Mr.Gbolahan Olude, said that the exercise is carrying out the phase 8 of the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) which has been scheduled to hold in 28 States across the country.

Penpushing further reports that, the commission boss added that the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise is the division of the country into smaller units, as to be made easier for the census officers during the period.

“The Enumeration Area Demarcation involves the division of the country into smaller geographical units that can be conveniently covered by a pair of enumerators during the census period. It is a way by which population sampling frame is developed for Nigeria”

The Commissioner pointed out that, the Enumeration Area Demarcation( EAD) exercise cannot be successfully executed without the contributions of everybody in the local government.

 “In view of the deployment of huge personnel and materials for the exercise, the Commission will require the support of the Kabiyesi, Baales, Community Development Association, the general public and indeed Abeokuta North Local Government Council for the smooth implementation of the exercise, in the following key areas’.

“Sensitisation of the populace, provision of security for the safety of our personnel and materials, provision of accommodation for the field staff, provision of local guides and assistance in any other way that can lead to success of the EAD”

Penpushing also reports that, in a welcome address by the Controller, Ogun National Population Commission (NPC), Mrs Abosede Otusanya, said the Enumeration Area Demarcation is a way of knowing the area within a particular local government, so that it would be easier for census purposes.

“The Enumeration Area Demarcation is the way of getting the map of each area demarcated so that the map would be useful for us during the census, please I want all of us to know that this is not census, but demarcation exercise, because this morning, as soon as some people had been coming to me that why would census be going on in Abeokuta North Local Government alone and not in the entire Ogun State”

Penpushing reports that, the controller also clarified it that the exercise is not census as some people have thought but a demarcation exercise.

“Please, it is not census, but demarcation exercise and when they told you about demarcation exercise as I have said, we can say that we have some entire local government, already demarcated in Ogun State, like; Abeokuta South successfully, Ijebu-ode, and also Egbado South Yewa South, and in Ogun State this is the first one” she said.

 “And I know all the anormalies that all the people of Abeokuta North has been complaining of population, this is the time that we would make the correction”, she added

The Head of Vital Registration,  of the commission in the Stat, Mr Niyi Alayaki  while also reacting to the purpose of the exercise said “Children below ages of five years would be noted and given certificate during the exercise, while those who have collected certificate should not collect it again, but those who have passed through the age of five, should come to our office and collect it. It is free and not to be paid for”

Penpushing reports that,among dignitaries present at the flagoff exercise were; the Alakija of Egbaland, Oba Samsoonden Afolabi, Asoju Oba, Onimala of Imala, Alhaji. Rafiu Kasimawo Olabode, representatives of Community Development Areas (CDAs), representatives of Community Development Commission (CDC), Representative, Electoral Officer, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
