
Senator Salisu advocates for national council of traditional rulers in Nigeria
The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District of Ogun State at the national assembly Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu on Thursday make strong support of a bill to establish the National Council of Traditional Rulers in Nigeria.
Penpushing reports that Salisu in his speech at the Plenary to support the bill highlighted the proud heritage of the traditional institutions in his constituency, Ogun Central, which dates back centuries, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Egba traditional council in the development of not only Ogun Central but also Ogun State and the nation at large.
The Senator who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Cybersecurity, recalled the historical significance of the Egba United Government, led by royal fathers, which predated Nigeria’s existence as a country.
“Our traditional rulers are custodians of our values, preservers of our cultures, and a potent unifying force for our people”, he emphasised.
Penpushing further reports that Salisu argued that the establishment of the National Council of Traditional Rulers would strengthen the connection between the government and traditional institutions, fostering national unity and development.
The proposed Council seeks to create a formal platform for the nation’s revered monarchs to engage with the government and share their invaluable wisdom and insights with national leadership.
