MY VICTORY CAN BE LIKENED TO ‘AGBEKOYA’ REVOLT OF 1968, SAYS OYO GOVERNOR-ELECT
Hear him “The political struggle of the past weeks by the people of Oyo State, particularly the elections which took place Saturday, leading to my emergence as your next Governor come May this year, reminds me of the Agbekoya struggle of 1968.”
“I compare the two historical events because while the original Agbekoya struggle of 50 years ago was a peasant revolt that kicked against high taxation and tariffs, particularly of farmers by the powers that be, Saturday’s voting pattern, clearly showed your dogged determination in spite of spirited efforts to frustrate you.”
The Governor- Elect reiterated further that he will run a government that will be of a good benefit for all the citizenry of Oyo State, noting that he will not limit the dividend of democracy to only the people that vote for him or only the people that believe in his struggle but to all and sundry of Oyo State.
Penpushing further reports that, Makinde however, use the medium to appreciate those that made his dream of becoming Governor of the State a successful one, noting that making history is usually decided by wisemen.
He said “the making of history is usually decided by wise men who volunteer to operate from behind the scene. High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Osi Olubadan and former Governor of the State, together with Senator Olufemi Lanlehin of the ADC, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli of the Zenith Labour Party, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde of the SDP, Sen. Monsura Sumonu and others who decided to relegate their own ambition and support me for the greater good of the masses.
