Dangote truck accident on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway claims seven lives
A multiple fatal crashes involving a Dangote Company truck on Saturday claimed lives of seven persons and other ten seriously injured within the axis of the old toll gate at Ota on the Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway.
Penpushing reports that, Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission, (FRSC, Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe made this known explaining that the crash involved a Dangote truck conveying cements ; a space wagon and a Volkswagon yellow coloured passengers bus.
The Commission’s spokesperson said irate mob protesting the incident have set ablaze the Dangote truck suspected to have caused the fatal crash, adding that as at the time of filing this report the officials of the road safety commission were still at the scene managing the incident and has contacted the Fire Service to extinguish the inferno to make rescue operations faster .
Penpushing further reports that, she said sister security and emergency agencies have been informed to assist in curtailing the situation, explaining that the crash involved a total of 17 people made up of (6 male adults , 2 male children 8 female adults , and 1 female child
The commission spokesperson said vehicles involved were 03;(a) Dangote Truck Ash coloured with no registration number (b)V\W Bus Yellow LSR128XP . (c) Sienna White APP122CD, adding that the suspeccted causes were speeding and mechanical deficiency suspected to be brake failure
“The total number of people killed were 07 made up of 02 male adults , 03 female adults, 01 male child and 01 female child .The number injured were : 10 (4 male adults and 6 female adults)”‘ she said, adding that the Injured victims were rescued to General Hospital, Ota while the corpses of the dead victims were deposited at the General Hospital Ifo morgue in Ogun State.
Penpushing reports that, Sector Commander, Ogun State Command Clement Oladele has commiserated with the relations of the victims and again warned that the area the crash occurred is a black spot notorious for frequent crashes , which has claimed over 40 lives in the last five years and called on motorists especially articulated vehicles to drive cautiously whenever using that section of the corridor .
The Sector Commander also advised passerbys to desist from turning into mobs and resorting to self-help by willfully destroying public properties or accidented vehicles, irrespective of the level of provocations , as there are standard ways of reporting and handling griviancies to appropriate law enforcement agencies.
Penpushing also reports that, the Sector Commander explained that, “members of the public can obtain details of the crash at the Federal Road Safety Corps Command in Ota or contact the aforementioned medical facilities”
