Mother seeks support for 7-year-old child with stunt growth

A 30-year-old petty trader Taiye AbdulKareem has called on Nigerian Government and Nigerians, as well as corporate organisations, including Non-Governmental Organisations to come to the aid of her child health challenges which has become impediment to her growth.

Penpushing reports that the woman, a resident of Ilorin, Kwara State narrating the plight of the baby girl said the problem started from early stage of the pregnancy when she visited hospital for maternal appointment.

The woman who sells food stuff and husband a butcher lamented that when she visited the clinic, the scan showed that the baby has a symptom of stunt that will hinder her growth, and that there will be need to perform surgery on her head after birth.

‘When I visited clinic during the pregnancy, they told me that, the baby cannot develop because the water in her body is drying. I then asked them the next action to do, and they said I will undergo Caesarian because I won’t be able to give birth to her’, she recalled.

Penpushing further reports that, she did scan at Specialist Hospital Alagbado and after the baby delivery she was referred to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where she was told that there was need to do surgery for the baby

The woman said, because the family could not afford the surgery, the baby, Suebat Abdul-Ganiu was discharged from the hospital, and thereafter was taking her for medical evaluation, with the hope that she would recover

Penpushing also reports that the woman said it dawned on the family as year rolls in and out, as the stunt condition became obvious, following the failure of the expected growth as a baby, lamenting that at 7 years, the girl could not do anything on her own

‘I stopped going to the hospital when we have exhausted the little money we have to take care of the medical bill. A t 7 years, she still looks like a toddler, she cannot even walk on her own, but use walker to aid her movement’, she stated

Penpushing reports that she explained that at a point, she was advised to handover the girl to her grandmother, where she has been living till date, lamenting that luck has not smile on her since birth

‘People advised me to do so because of her small stature and they said may be if I give birth to another one, she will stand up to walk and talk, but after I gave birth to another one, she still remain the same and she is 7 years old now’.

Penpushing further reports that it is disheartening that her age group are now in school, while those she gave birth after her, are doing well and already enrolled in school, as she passionately called on Non-Government Organisations(NGO’S) to help in offering special attention to her, as the family is financially down

‘What we want is that, we want them to assist us in any way they can do so that, she will walk and talk because we could not enrol her to school like her age mates, even her junior one has been enrolled in school. Please assist us and may God Almighty assist you too’, the mother begged.
