Bandits attack private university, kidnap students in Kaduna state

A private university in Kaduna State, Greenfeild University has been attacked by gunmen who allegedly kidnapped many students in the early hours of Wednesday, but number of abducted students yet to be known as at the time of filing this report.

Penpushing reports that, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the attack on the university which is located along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway, some few Kilometers to the Olam feed factory which is about 30km from Kaduna town.

The incident narrated by a resident close to the university, Abdul Umaru in his account said he heard gunshots in the early hours of Wednesday, but did not know what was happening, adding that with happenings on the road, he didn’t expect a university operating in the area

“With the way things are happening on that Abuja-Kaduna road, I can’t expect a university operating at that area. We see the signboard and one police van always, but it is dangerous’, he said.

Penpushing further reports that a former Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani in his twitter page condemned the worrisome development, adding that it was another tragedy, stressing that the university authorities ought to have see the signal because of the location.

“The fresh report that bandits have attacked and kidnapped many students at the Greenfield University along Kaduna-Abuja road is yet another tragedy. Proprietors of schools within this axis need to read the signs. Even most of us have abandoned our farms to the care of God,” Sani wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalinge, was yet to make any statement in reaction to the development.
