MILITARY SACKS OMAR AL-BASHIR AFTER 30 YEARS AS SUDAN PRESIDENT

The details of Al-Bashir’s removal from office were still sketchy as at the time of filing this report, but sources from the social media said it came through a Military Coup D’etat, while further report has it that there were heavy chants against Al-Bashir across the county, and solidarity songs by the Military were reported to be playing on the airwaves.

The Minister of Defence, sources added has been tipped as the Head of the Military Council ,said to be  in charge of the country, but it was not immediately clear when new elections would take place in the country.

Penpushing further reports that, Agence France-Press cited state television as announcing the military was gearing for an important message to the nation, but the statement did not affirm if it was before Al-Bashir’s reported exit.

The sacked President is recalled was indicted by the International Criminal Court in 2008 for alleged crimes stemming from the genocide in Darfur, and has since remained unpopular amongst Western powers

Penpushing also recalled that Al-Bashir seized power in 1989 as a Military General and has remained the longest serving leader of the country since the country gained independence in 1956.

However, Al-Arabiya reports that several former and current officials, including a former Vice President, have been detained, as well as airports shut down following the development.
