Former Deputy Governor, Clement Haastrup emerges 49th Owa Obokun of Ijesaland
The former Deputy Governor of Osun State Prince Clement Haastrup has emerged as the 49th Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, who will be succeeding late Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran who joined his ancestors in September 2024 after reigning for 42 years,
Penpushing reports that Haastrup who served as number two citizen of the state under late former Governor Isiaka Adeleke administration, was said to have defeated nine other candidates in a selection process held at the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat, Ilesa on Friday.
The Public Relations Officer of Bilaro Olu-Odo Ruling House, where Haastrup hails from confirmed the development in a statement as elected Owa Obokun Ajimoko III and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, while as at the time of the process there was heavy security presence at strategic locations in the town which include military operatives and police among others.
Penpushing further reports that following the election Haastrup, Governor Ademola Adeleke has given approval as confirmed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
The statement stated that Adeleke while congratulating the newly approved monarch whom he said his choice followed due processes in line with the Chiefs’ law of Osun State 2002 (cap 25), enjoined all sons and daughters of the towns to co-operate with their new traditional ruler, particularly in allowing peace and unity to take the centre stage.
