Mama Awolowo remains symbol of our proud heritage, says Governor Abiodun

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described late Chief(Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo as a woman whose faith, resilience and service to humanity remain etched in the annal of history and therefore remain a symbol of our proud heritage.

Penpushing reports that Abiodun stated this at the 10th Memorial Anniversary and Patronal Day for the deceased at Our Saviour’ s Anglican Church, Ikenne- Remo, Ogun State describing the occasion as a celebration a life that was not only well – lived but also poured out in service to God, family and humanity.

The Governor represented by the Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya pointed out that the deceased, who was the wife of late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was indeed a precious gift to her generation and a shining example of grace, strength and Godly devotion, adding that she was a faithful wife and partner who stood as pillar to her husband through trials and triumphs.

Penpushing further reports that Abiodun said her devotion was steadfast, proving that faith and loyalty are greater than circumstances, noting that the life of Mama Awolowo pointed to the fact that leadership is not only about politics or power but about service, adding that she led with humility, nurtured with wisdom and stood as a rock of support in turbulent times.

Penpushing also reports that Abiodun rejoiced with the children and grandchildren for organising the memorial service for their late mother and charged them to continue to be shining lights carrying forward the ideals of faith, sacrifice and commitment to humanity that the deceased lived and died for.

The Diocesan Bishop of Remo, Rt. Rev. Dr. Olusina Fape earlier in his memorial sermon themed ” Remembrance that Evokes Gratitude”, said coming together to celebrate ones patriarch or matriarch is a time to reflect on their lifes when on earth, pointing out that the Awolowos lived a good life and left indelible legacy

Penpushing further reports that Fape said Papa and Mama were like Siamese twins that represented a righteous life, integrity, transparency, honesty and selflessness and urged the descendants to follow their steps.

The only surviving child of the sage, Ambassador Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosunmu in her remarks said the service was deliberately designed and laid with hymns and sonorous songs to pay homage to mama whom she said loved music in her life time.

Penpushing also reports that Awolowo-Dosunmu thanked the clergymen, politicians, royal fathers, politically associates of papa, family members and dignitaries who came to honour her and mama and urged them to continue to lift the family up in prayer.
