Lockdown: Former Ondo State Governor, Opaleye donates food items for kinsmen

Former Governor of Old Ondo State General Ekundayo Opaleye has extended gestures to his kinsmen at Erumu Owu Kingdom of Egbaland, with provision of food items as palliatives for the residents at the lockdown against coronavirus lasted.

Penpushing reports that the retired Army General accompanied by his wife and Hon Jonhson Fatoki, a political associate distributed the items which include: rice, yam, gari, indomie and soaps among others to the community located in Abeokuta North Local Government of Ogun State.

The donor while speaking with journalists after the exercise said, he did that personally to support government gestures for residents of the state, in view of the trying period Nigerians and other nations are facing

‘Because I feel for everybody else, I feel for myself, i feel for the people of Erimu over whom I supretend by the grace of God, so if we are having this kind of lockdown and know how easy and difficult it is to make ends meet. The little I have I want to distribute between the compounds in our community. I think I have just done that’,Opaleye said.

Penpushing further reports that, the donor called on other well to do Nigerians, to extend hands of fellowship to the need, particularly at this critical and difficult period, stressing that those who can afford it should not turn away their faces in helping.

if you can afford it why not. If you show your concern and fellowship, they will understand that now you did not have and may be when you do have, you are responsible for their welfare. It is actually about care.

Penpushing also reports that in his own remarks, Hon Johnson Olufatoki, Otun Balogun Erumu kingdom, Abeokuta explained that the assistance rendered is by former Governor of old Ondo State and Balogun Erumu Kingdom, was personal from his pocket and spread across the twenty-two communities.

‘We have 22 compounds in Erumu and all the 22 compounds were given. The idea is just to give token to assist the government. The government cannot do everything. What the Balogun did was from his personal purse, his not representing any government, individual or group. He made the donation on behalf of the traditional council. He personally carried out that exercise’,Fatoki stated.
