Lisabi grammar school old students commission multi-purpose lawn tennis courts for school
The Old Students Association of Lisabi Grammar School, 1982 set, on Friday re-constructed and commissioned a multi- purpose lawn tennis courts for the school, which was part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of their exit from the college
Penpushing reports that, the ceremony was held at the school premises located in Idi-Aba, area of Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, and had in attendance hundreds of the former students, of one of the first set of secondary schools in the town.
The President of the association, Oloye Muhyi-deen Kazeem explained that, the project choice is intended to achieve empowerment of the students, morally, economically, physically and mentally too, adding that the project was encapsulated into three phases.
Penpushing further reports that, Kazeem stated that the phase one was the reconstruction of the old dilapidated lawn courts, phase two was Installation of wire fence round the lawn court, and phase three was construction of the spectators sitting gallery.
“This is a double celebration. We are marking our 40th Graduation Anniversary and our End of Year Get Together at the same time. Though, this not planned but along the line, this became a dual celebration to have’, he said.
“We, therefore resolve to develop this Multi-Purpose Sport Facility project for use of humanity and mankind. The Project choice is intended to achieve empowerment of the students, morally, economically, physically and mentally too. Hence, the reconstruction of the multi- purpose lawn courts in our Alma mater, the school premises at Lisabi Grammar school, Idi Aba, Abeokuta’,Kazeem added.
“I want to appreciate all our members home and abroad, over one year we had the dream of this beautiful project on ground today. Now it has been completed and made possible by your wonderful time you had to critic the blueprint documents and provide us your invaluable inputs and finances even in this hard period” he noted.
Penpushing also reports that, the association boss while appreciating the Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee, Surveyor Lanre Oyebolu for his uncommon and faultless supervision of the project urged others to contribute their own quota as there are still lot to be done towards the development of the school.
The Principal of the senior school, Titilope Odutayo in an interview with Penpushing media stated that sporting adds a lot of value to students physically, even in their wellbeing, health, knowledge and with this gesture of the association the student would be exposed .
“I’m highly elated about it, knowing fully well that sporting adds a lot of value to students physically, even in their wellbeing, health, knowledge and it makes them to be useful to themselves and to the nation’,Odutayo said
“Worldwide, we know how people hold sporting activities in high esteem and it is good they are given all these, so that we can expose the students to different kind of sports. Who knows what they would grow up to be in the nearest future?’
“Well, I want to appreciate the LIGSOSA, they’ve been coming in their sets to be relevant to the school and I’m calling on all other sets that are yet to come in that we are awaiting them to come and give back to their alma mater’.
“Though the old students are doing their bits, the state government should not relent on their oars, though the work is enormous, they have to pay the teachers, they have to do some assignments and it all engulfs money but in the area of facilities, I want to appreciate them too. They’ve been giving lockers, though it might not go round but the state government should look for ways to add value to the school’.
Penpushing reports that, the Headboy of the school Sunday Nworie while appreciating the association for their effort, however, called on the state government to provide more qualified teachers and equipment to enable the science students carry out their experiment.
“One of the things we need the government to do for us in the school is to provide more qualified teachers because it is not in all our subjects that we have qualified teachers I must be sincere. Some are teachers though they’re qualified but are not competent enough so we need the government to provide qualified teacher for us’’, he emphasised
“They should also provide equipment for the science students, there are somethings we’ll be taught most especially in chemistry and physics that we are only taught the theory aspects but the practical aspects would not be there. As science students we assimilate what we’re taught easily through practical than what we just read and cram”.
Penpushing further reports that the sports prefect of the college Oluwatobi Makajuola, in his own remarks noted that the lawn tennis courts is encouraging and beneficial for those present and those coming after them .
