Husband beats pregnant wife to death

A man has allegedly beaten his pregnant wife to death in the Limawa area of Minna, Niger State capital, as the father-in-law said the suspect has a history of domestic abuse against the deceased

Penpushing reports that residents disclosed that the sad incident occurred late Tuesday night when neighbours attracted by screaming from the couple’s apartment found the woman unresponsive and later confirmed dead.

The neigbours who as at the time of filing this report said the identity of the deceased pregnant woman has not been officially released, however, said the suspect had been arrested by police and in custody

Penpushing further that the father-in-law stated his daughter had endured domestic violence, stressing that was not the first time he laid hands on the wife, and had been warned severally, but continued the bad habit.

The incident sparked outrage in Minna, with rights activists and community leaders demanding justice, while many also called for enhanced legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms to curb the rising tide of gender-based violence across the country.

Penpushing also reports that Human rights organisations have, however, reiterated the need for stronger protections for women, particularly those in vulnerable situations such as pregnancy.

Meanwhile, the Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect adding that as at the time of filing this report investigations were ongoing.
