Kidnapped Taraba varsity students regain freedom after payment of ransom
Two students recently kidnapped at the Federal University Wukari (FUW) in Taraba State, Joshua Sardauna and Obianu Elizabeth, have regained their freedom, after payment of an undisclosed amount of money to their captors.
Penpushing reports that the Head of Information and Protocol of the university, Ashu Agbu, confirmed their release on Friday, adding that the abductees regained freedom Thursday night but was silence on amount paid to the kidnappers.
The gunmen had abducted Sardauna, a student of Economics, and Miss Obianu of the Microbiology department earlier this month from an eatery on the institution’s premises, while the abductors later contacted the university authorities and demanded N50 million as ransom for their release.
Penpushing further reports that the ransom was later renegotiated down to N12 million, while as at the time of their release sources in the school said N700,000 was paid after a series of negotiations to secure their release.
