Kidnapped former deputy governor released
The kidnapped former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Onje Gye-Wado, has been released but it was not clear as at the time of filing this report if ransom was paid to the gunmen who kidnapped him on 7 April, 2023.
Penpushing reports that Nasarawa State Police Command Public Relations Officer Ramhan Nansel, confirmed this development, explaining that Gye-Wado who was deputy governor between 1999 and 2003 in the administration of Abdullahi Adamu regained freedom at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday and has been reunited with his family.
The police spokesperson said no arrest was made yet and the police were not aware of any ransom paid before the release, adding that the former deputy governor was released due to sustained pressure mounted on the kidnappers by a combined team of security agencies.
