JAMB EXAMINATION: STUDENTS PROTEST PROVISION OF NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD AS PREREQUISITE FOR EXAM INATION

The students led by Gbolahan  Ewetade  at the press centre in Abeokuta, explained that the situation was horrible as most of them have been visiting the center since last week without result ,adding that, the Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC), always claimed  poor power supply .

“We have been coming to this place now for a week, since Monday and they will be telling us there is no fuel in the generator, they have called the NEPA but they did not bring light, and now we don’t know what to do, since morning.,Ewetade said

“My daddy woke me up since 5am, to go to UBA that they are doing same thing there, but when we go to UBA, they told us there is no power and we should go to their office. Now we are in their office since 6am, and we are also told there is no power and the Federal Government did not give them money to buy fuel or anything’

‘And now we need help, and JAMB is coming up very soon, and without this National Identity Card, we can’t do anything, so we really need help. Maybe they should remove it or postpone our JAMB, if they cannot provide what we need for us, then they should rather cancel it” “he said.

The candidates also alleged that the  Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC),   Enrolment Form, was sold to them at the rate of N50, per student   and yet it was not allowed to be submitted.

Penpushing further reports that, another candidate, Oluwatomin Oyindamola, who also spoke said “I came from Lagos I came because they same issue is what we are facing in Lagos. The issue is that there is no power supply and the queue is always much so I learnt that the process is easy here in Abeokuta that is why I came.”

“When I came here they told us that there was no light and there was no fuel to power their generator. They should have something to fall back on whenever there is no power. Please this is government establishment, not private establishment’.

‘So there should be something to fall back on. You telling me that there is no power in the generator is something else is like there is something fishy. Now Jamb needs this number for us to obtain our form, well I am not here for Jamb,  I am here for other reasons. Something must be done.”

Penpushing also reports that, one of the parents, Mrs Abubakar, while speaking appealed to the government to help in extending the deadline of the National Identity Card, since it has become challenge   to acquire now, adding that “If they cannot obtain it now between today and tomorrow, they will add extra N5, 000 to it as fine, so we plead for the government to help in extending it”

Meanwhile, various efforts to reach the management of the   Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC )for  response proved abortive as the officials  could not be reached on phone, while at  the headquarters of the commission none of the staff was ready to comment on the development.
