Robbers raid church during vigil, abduct congregant

Five members of armed robbery gang have been arrested for allegedly invading a church during vigil, abducting a congregant and robbed others of their belongings in Wasimi axis of Ewekoro local government area of Ogun state.

 

Penpushing reports that, Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed this on Sunday said the suspects launched the attack at Christ Apostolic Church, situated at Gudugbe Alagbon area of Wasimi town, while nemesis later caught up with them.

The police spokesman gave identities of the  suspects as Abubakar Ibrahim, 38, Sulaiman Yusuf 32, Ismail Yusuf 20, Umar Aliu 26 and Yinusa Musa, adding that they were arrested following a distress call made by one Obisesan Seye the Shepered in charge of the church that while vigil was going on in the church at about 1:30 am, six men who were armed with dangerous weapons invaded the church and attacked the church members.

Penpushing further reports that, Oyeyemi said the cleric informed police that the hoodlums beat some members of the church to stupor before dispossessing them of their valuables, adding that as if that was not enough, the hoodlums abducted one Mrs Mojisola Atolagbe while leaving the church.

“Upon the distress call, policemen attached to Ewekoro division swiftly moved to the scene, combed the  forest where the hoodlums escaped to thoroughly and their efforts paid off when five amongst the gang were apprehended in the bush”, Oyeyemi said.

 Penpushing also reports that,Oyeyemi  said the victims of the attack have identified all the arrested suspects while the sixth one is being hunted for, adding that recovered from them are: one Cutlass, two sharp pointed cudgels and assorted dangerous charms.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation, and also directed an extensive routine patrol across the state so as to assure members of the public that police in the state are on ground to ensure their safety.
