International Labour Organisation kick-starts child labour elimination in Ogun state

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment organized a two day workshop in validating a document to eliminate child labour in Ogun State.

Penpushing reports that, the workshop which had in attendance stakeholders including the media was held at Women Development Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, with the collaboration of Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour in Supply Chains Africa (ACCEL Africa)

The National Programme Officer  of Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour in Supply Chains Africa (ACCEL Africa), Dr. Agatha Kolawole  in her speech pointed out that, war against child labour and must well be covered.

Penpushing further reports that, she said in view of this its implementation will definitely lead to reduction of the vulnerability of children to child labour, stressing that the project is looking into policy to strengthened the systems

“The project is looking into policy to strengthening systems, to ensure the elimination of child labour, through that objective we are here to support Ogun state in the development and validation of its second state action plan for the elimination of child labour’, Kolawole stated.

“We would expect Ogun state to take ownership of the document and implement it accordingly,  because I  believe the effective implementation of these action plan for the elimination of child labour in Ogun state would result into the reduction of child labour at the taste level;, she  emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that, Kolawole commended the state government efforts in reduction of child labour,  noting that  state government has been doing well and contributing to eliminate child labour, noting that , that was Directors from various ministries were in attendance.

“We actually expect the Ogun state government to support the full implementation of the state action plan. And I will also plead that the state government should support the effective running of the state steering committee at the elimination of child labour’, she said.

Penpushing reports that, Consultant to Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour in Supply Chains Africa (ACCEL Africa), Mrs Peju Osoba led the State Steering Committee on Child Labour in the development of Ogun State Action Plan n the elimination of Child Labour.

The Consultant in an interview with journalists explained that what the workshop did  was the validation workshop of the State Action Plan on the elimination of Child Labour in the state and environs

Meanwhile, stakeholders present at the workshop include officials of the  Ministry of Justice,  Ministry of Women Affairs, Media,Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC),Ministry of Labour and Employment, Civil Society Organisations,Non Government Organisations (NGOs), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC),Immigration, Police and Penpushing Media among others
