Indecent Assault of Teenager: You are on your own, Theatre association tells Baba Ijesa

The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has disowned the embattled Yoruba actor Olanrewaju James popularly called Baba Ijesha as member of the association

Penpushing reports the National President of the association, Bolaji Amusan known as ‘Mr Latin’, made the clarification on the status of the detained suspect, explaining that he(Baba Ijesa) is not member of the association contrary to insinuations in some quarters.

The association in reaction on his instagram said after the alleged crime by Baba Ijesa, the association had been receiving calls from within and outside Nigeria that,he(Baba Ijesa) should be expelled from the association

‘Good evening everybody. My name is Bolaji Amusan, TAMPAN President. People have been calling for his suspension, to eject him from the association, but I have no sole power to suspend him from association because Baba  Ijesa is not a member of TAMPAN’, he said

Penpushing further reports that, Amusan explained following the ugly development he had earlier directed the National Director of Research and Documentation to issue statement on behalf of the association to condemn the act, which was swiftly done

‘ For this past few days  there has being hes and cries over the conduct of Baba Ijesa, and as the President of TAMPAN, I gave directive to  National Director of Research and Documentation to issue statement on behalf of TAMPAN to condemn the action of Baba Ijesa in totality, which we did’

‘We posted it on portal of TAMPAN global, which I also did on my private portal for everybody to see that TAMPAN is not in support of the behavior of Baba Ijesa. As the President of TAMPAN , that is what am suppose to do, but thereafter people have been calling for his suspension, eject him from the association, but I have no sole power to suspend him from association because ijesa is not a member of TAMPAN’

‘So somebody who is not on our membership list, what power do I have to eject him from the association. He is a colleague, as an actor, he is an entertainer, there are number of associations, so he is not member of TAMPAN, the only thing we can do is to condemn his action, which we have done’.

‘No right thinking humanbeing will support molestation, no right thinking humanbeing will go and lobby for the release of person who commit such crime. Everyone of us, as a mother as a father and as parents are condemning the act.  I am not an exception, but because, he is not my member, there is little I can do’

‘If he is my member alleged for such grave offence, our first step is to place him on suspension, until, the case is completed, if he is convicted we will permanently remove him, if released he will need to face panel, if need to be readmitted, its in our constitution , that if member is convicted such member remain suspended for life’, Amusan emphasised
