IBARAPA POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS PROTEST NON-ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES TWO YEARS AFTER GRADUATION

Speaking on the development, one of the protesting students, Ademoyega Olaoluwa narrated his ordeal lamenting that the issue on ground was that their department has not been accredited, which is a factor that hinder their mobilisation for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service year.

“Seven Departments have not been accredited which include;  Office Technology and Management department, Purchasing and supply Department, Library and information science department, Civil Engineering department, Mechanical engineering Department, Electrical Engineering Department, Marketing Department’, he claimed

“We were here on a peaceful protest, to show our displeasure on state of our education, we are yet to be giving our admission letter two years after we have graduated, our certificate has not been issue to us, and we were yet to go for the NYSC due to the none accreditation of the courses we studied when we were in school”.

Penpushing further reports that, Olaoluwa reiterated further that all efforts made by the affected students to resolve the issue proved abortive, adding that the management of the institution has  not being sincere in their promise to find solution to the issue.

“We want the school management to accredit our courses so that we can go for our service year, we are also calling on the Oyo State Government to look into this issue and resolve it”, the student emphasised.

The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Oyo State, Comrade Moronkola Teslim while speaking to journalist at Eruwa campus said the students are on a peaceful protest to demand for their right which the management of the institution has been denying them for the past two years,

Penpushing also reports that, Teslim noted that the National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) as a body was also behind the protest stressing that  it is part of the duties of association leadership to listen to the cry of Nigerian Students.

The students’ leader emphasised that the school management should address the issue by giving room for dialogue between them and the affected students, and the management should be sincere with their promise because having failed on some promises they made two years ago.

“We decided to join this protest because we want justice to prevail, the students have been denied of their rights for two consecutive years, the school authority and the Government of Oyo State should come to the aids of these students”.

Penpushing reports that, the Deputy Rector of the institution, Dr. Peter Adejumo while addressing the protesters  said that the students were making issues out of non-issue stating that accreditation of courses is a managerial function of the institution.

The Rector explained that the school management is currently on top of the issue, noting that the management is currently at Kaduna to meet with the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) concerning the issue of accreditation in the school.

“In 2014, NBTE came to our institution for the validation of all our programs, 22 programs was validated and NBTE also came for resource inspection; there was deficiency in core engineering course which need to upgrade and this was what led to the non-accreditation of some course”.

Penpushing also reports that, Adejumo pointed out that shortage of fund also responsible for the non-accreditation of some courses, adding that the money coming to the school purse from the Oyo State Government was not enough to take care of the institution.

“We did not have any issue with our National Diploma (ND) courses, is only some of our Higher National Diploma (HND) courses that we are having issue with, we are trying to source for fund through other means across the federation so that we can we can have fund to accredit some of our courses”.

When contacted on phone, the Public Relations Officer of the Institution,  Gbenga Olayiwola said that the school in collaboration with the National Board of Technical Education(NBTE) are currently on top of the situation, and it will be resolve very soon.
