I cancelled my international engagement to honour Joju Fadairo as Asiwaju of ifo, says obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday disclosed that he postponed his international engagements to honour his kinsman, Chief Joju Fadairo in celebration of his (Fadairo) installation as the new Asiwaju of Ifoland in Ogun State.

Penpushing reports that Obasanjo made disclosure while addressing guests at the installation ceremony held at the palace of Olu of Ifo, traditional ruler of the ancient town, adding that Fadairo, a reputable Egbaman deserves the honour.

The octogenarian Fadairo was selected as the new Asiwaju of the town, following the demise of the immediate past leader of the town, Chief while the ceremony was attended by dignitaries from far and new to be part of the colourful events

Penpsushing further reports that Obasanjo on the ceremony which was transmitted live by Penpushing Media, explained that he was bill for a function in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but because of the integrity of the celebrator he decided to cancel the trip for another time.

‘ I cancelled my foreign trip to be part of this ceremony, to honour Joju Fadairo, a forthright man, with enormous integrity. I ought to be in Addis Ababa for an engagement, and when I checked at my itinerary, and ceremony is scheduled for today, I had to shift the trip’, he explained

The Balogun of Owu, however, used the occasion in calling on traditional rulers to be united in the interest of their subjects, towns and state as well as the country as a whole, emphasizing that development can only thrive where there is unity.

The former President stated that he would continue to work towards unity among the traditional rulers, adding that he was still much on the project of reconciling any identified feuding monarchs, particularly in Yorubaland

‘I am once again calling for unity among our traditional rulers. Work is still much in progress to reconcile our royal fathers, where there is need, I will continue doing this, is one of the major roles given to me, and am optimistic that things are getting better’, he added

‘It is when there is unity among our traditional rulers that there will be progress in the land. If traditional rulers are not in unity, there wont be much developmental growth in communities. Let our royal fathers come together as one united family. God will see us through’, Obasanjo stressed
