I am a core loyalist of all progressives congress, I declare support for Tinubu’s second term, says Amosun

Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, citing the need for fairness, equity, and national stability.

Penpushing reports that Amosun made this declaration while addressing his political supporters and guests, during activities marking his 68th birthday celebration held at the Ake Pavilion, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The former two term Governor stressed the importance of sustaining Nigeria’s rotational presidency arrangement between the North and the South, describing it as a critical mechanism for promoting unity and inclusion in the country’s political system.

Penpushing further reports that Amosun insisted that the South must be allowed to complete an eight-year tenure, just as the North previously did, in the interest of justice and balance in the country.

The former Governor recalled that the immediate late past President from the North, Muhammadu Buhari, completed two terms in office, amounting to eight years, adding that it would therefore be unjust for the South not to enjoy a similar opportunity under the current administration of President Tinubu.

“In the interest of Nigeria, we should observe the rotation. The rotation in the sense that if  the North takes the Presidency this time the South will have to take the next time. In the last how many years now, the last president from the North was President Muhammadu Buhari. He did eight years’, Amosun noted.

‘Now it is the turn of us in the South and we have in the saddle President Tinubu who is there now representing all of us in Nigeria, primarily but he is from South-West Zone and it’s representing all of us in the South’.

‘So, it’s indeed it is a no-brainer for anybody that loves Nigeria to agree that whatever we are doing we should respect that rotational arrangement and that rotational agreement’, he stressed

Penpushing also reports that Amosun emphasized that his stance was not motivated by personal loyalty or sectional interest, but by a sincere desire to protect Nigeria’s unity and democratic principles.

“Just like what I said when we were having our convention that time that in the interest of Nigeria not just in the interest of maybe even Asiwaju now or even any of us but in the interest of all of us in Nigeria if the North take their turn and did eight years it is sensible for us to allow the South to have their eight years.”

Penpushing reports that speaking on Nigeria’s current economic realities, the former governor expressed optimism that the nation is gradually finding its footing under the present administration.

“And I said there is no way we will have everything that is perfect that we want but gradually we are on the way and by god grace we will get there,” he said.

Penpushing further reports that Amosun reaffirmed that he remains a key stakeholder within the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he played a significant role in the formation and growth of the party, particularly in Ogun State.

“So I want to implore all of you I have read a lot of things but I want everybody to know if we say A is our A. If we say B it will be B. In every case, in this Ogun state how can they talk about APC without talking about Amosun and all of us, this is with all due respect to all our leaders’.

‘I think probably the only person that will say in this Ogun State when we were forming APC that I can say he’s in the forefront is Chief Osoba. When you take Chief Osoba, who will you take next? It is me!’, he declared

Penpushing also reports that he assured his supporters that he remains committed to the party and urged them not to destroy what they collectively built over the years, adding that internal political developments would ultimately work in their favour.

“And that is why you do not destroy what you built. So, for us, this is who we are and this is where we are. On all other things, at the appropriate time we will call ourselves we will talk to ourselves. A lot is happening, but by the grace of god, we will all laugh last’

Penpushing reports that Amosun had earlier at his private residence held a special prayer session to mark his birthday, expressing deep gratitude to God for the gift of life, good health, and strength at the age of 68.

“I am grateful to God Almighty for giving me good health. You can even be 40 years old and probably not be healthy. But at 68, I run round and the Almighty God gives me that strength. So, I’m happy and pray the Almighty Allah will continue to give me that strength”, he stated

Penpushing further reports that former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, described Amosun as a forthright and determined leader with a strong sense of purpose.

The popular politician speaking during an interview with journalists praised the former governor’s tenure, particularly highlighting the road infrastructure development and effective leadership witnessed across Ogun State.

“There are so many things to celebrate about my brother Senator Ibikunke Amosun. We are both from Egbaland. So, he has been a senior brother and that is more important than any other relationship you can think of. Aside from that he has a tenacity of purpose that’s what you see in Senator Amosun in addition he is a forthright person, you know where he stands’, he said

“And in the course of his governorship, the kind of the government is there in terms of road infrastructure that we witness in the whole state. Aside from that, he provides effective leadership politically and right in the community and religious leaders. everywhere. That’s why you have the kind of crowd that you have here today’, Isola stated.

Penpushing also reports that the event was attended by several dignitaries, including spiritual leaders, traditional rulers, political associates, party leaders, family members of the celebrant, and numerous supporters as well as well-wishers who came from within and outside Ogun State to celebrate with the former governor.
