Housewife seeks divorce, accuses husband of abandoning family for six years

A middled aged woman, Banke Sotunde has dragged her husband to customary court in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital in a divorce suit, accusing him to have abandoned the family for six years, which include their three children.

Penpushing reports that the woman narrated her ordeal in the court, adding that the marriage has equally been marred with physical abuse from her husband, adding that there was even no formality in their relationship

The mother of three boys told the court that the first, five years of their staying together was a hell, before, the husband later abandoned the home after the birth of their last child who is now 6-year-old.

Penpushing further reports she recalled that at a point in time she thought of committing suicide, but the pastor of their church came to her rescue by providing all needed support adding that she had been facing both emotional and financial torture.

The woman added that the community was also a support pillar over her plight alongside her children, just as she disclosed that she has continued to face tough financial situation, stating that her husband before leaving home borrowed sum of N100,000 from her which till date was yet to refund.

Penpushing also reports that the divorce seeking wife said in the course of her predicaments she met another man who offered assistance, helping her pay off some of her outstanding debts, adding that her alleged run-away husband, upon learning about her new relationship, attempted to reconcile with her.

The woman told the court the embattled husband came back to beg for her forgiveness., but said this same man already has another wife and child outside of their relationship, raising further concerns about his commitment and fidelity.

Penpushing reports that the woman stated that the husband engages in fetish practices, hence, her resolve to seek for separation, adding that aside from that there was no formal marriage between them, and prayed the court to compel the man to be responsible towards the welfare of their children.

The woman who begged the court to order her husband, who was not in court when the matter was raised, to refund money borrowed from her, emphasized that she was fed up with the relationship having moved on with her life

Penpushing further reports that the court President, Mrs. Abimbola, in her ruling said a letter of summon with be sent to the husband before next adjournment on November 12, 2024, declaring that should the man ignored the communication, she would proceed to deliver final judgement.
