Hoodlums threaten to set ablaze Ogun State Press Centre

Hoodlums disguising as members of the protesting youths against police brutality on Wednesday threatened to set ablaze Press Centre, popularly called ‘Iwe-Iroyin located in Oke-Ilewo axis of Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that, the hoodlums made a brisk stop over at the press centre at about 1pm and asked journalists and other workers within the secretariat, which is the cradle of journalism in Nigeria and to produce first newspapers in 1859 to leave or regret staying.

The hoodlums, many of them noticed to be heavily drunk threatened to beat up everybody within the premises if they failed to comply with their directive, and ready to set the complex on fire and brought it  to ashes.

Penpushing further reports that, it took the intervention of some leaders of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) within the complex to pacify the hoodlums, who later left after persuasion, while the gate was subsequently shut by the authorities of the council.

The hoodlums also threatened some on-site staff of Cappa and D’Alberto Construction Limited, the Contractors of ongoing 10-Storey Building Construction owned by the Guaranty Trust Bank opposite the Press Centre, a development which forced the staff to hurriedly closed the main entrance to the company premises

Penpushing also reports that, the ravaging bandits later moved to Divisional Police Headquarters at Ibara, and Nigeria Correctional Centre opposite the police station in Abeokuta to launch attack on the two facilities

The quick interventions of, the joint Military and Police patrols, made it impossible for the hoodlums to strike, having been dispersed from the vicinity, while some of them later relocated to some parts of the town extorting money from motorists
