HERDSMEN ATTACK: ANGLICAN CHURCH BANS CONSUMPTION OF COW MEAT BY MEMBERS IN SOUTH EAST
The clergyman declared that the simple solution to herdsmen attacks and killings in the zone is that he has officially banned use of cow in all church activities within his jurisdiction, either in form of offering or serving people as meat, and urged that it be officially adopted in the entire geopolitical zone.
“Our eyes are open now; that is why I said that nobody should eat cow meat in this area again. If we do not eat cow meat in the South East, then, there would be no need of having RUGA or any sort of camp for cows and Fulani herders here. It is a simple solution to a deadly federal government’s project proposal!
“I do not eat cow anymore and I would never eat it again. So, I have declared cow and cow meat banned in all my Dioceses for all occasions. If cow is banned in the South-East and all Ogbuefi become Ogbuewu or Ogbu Efi Igbo, then everything would be settled at once’.
“Let us begin to rear the Igbo cow species, which we were once renowned for, and it is even more nutritious. When we do that, there would be no course for anybody to bring in cows here. And if they do not have the market, they would not have course to think of a place to settle to rear cow, or have the course to start thinking of killing us, under the guise of herders”.
Penpushing further reports that clergyman also warned mischief makers to stay off, stressing that Ndigbo have strategized and ready to protect lives and properties of their citizens, adding that,“let nobody think that they can overrun us because, we are ready to bring out Ogbunigwe again, if we are pushed to the wall. We will roll out Ogbunigwe to face insecurity, bandits and killer Fulani herders, and it is a promise!
“If Buhari cannot control the killer herdsmen and so-called bandits, whatever name they bear, then they should be ready for war in the Southeast. That was why I asked the Governor of Enugu State to keep calm over recent security lapses in the State because, time has come when we shall return fire for fire. Managers of our country have refused to do the needful and we cannot continue to fold our arms’.
Penpushing also reports that, he explained that part of the needful is that the federal government should draft the Igbo to head some federal security agencies in the Southeast stressing that they understand the people and the terrain better.
“You cannot have all-Muslim/Hausa security people to head the Police, Army and others in the Southeast and expect miracles. Some of these people cannot but compromise in their duties, and until the federal government grants the Southeast leave from these Fulani/Muslim, it would be difficult for miracle to happen in the zone, in terms of security”.
