Gunmen shoot Ogun state governor’s office finance director dead
Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Wednesday shot dead Director of Finance and Accounts attached to the Governor’s Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Taiwo Oyekanmi, said to be on official duty when he was attacked
Penpushing reports that Oyekanmi was said to be returning from a bank where he had gone to make withdrawals in preparation for Thursday’s budget presentation by the Governor, when he was gunned down on top of the bridge which is a stone throw to the Nigeria National Petrol Corporation (NNPC) ,Abeokuta
The gunmen after the attack escaped from the scene, while victim was subsequently rushed to General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, by symphatizers within the vicinity, but was later pronounced dead by medical doctors on duty
Penpushing further reports that the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola, as at the time of filing this report said she was yet to be briefed about the incident, but the government has issued a condolence message over the ugly development.
The Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun in a statement to commiserate with the family of the slain Director confirmed that he was on official assignment within the metropolis when he met his untimely death
‘Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has commiserated with the family of Mr Taiwo Oyekanmi, the late Director of Finance and Accounts, in the office of the Governor, who was killed in cold blood by suspected armed robbers on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the state capital’, the statement reads.
Penpushing also reports that Abiodun in the statement made available by his Chief Press Secretary Lekan Adeniran described the incident as a rude shock to him, as he called for prayers for the immediate family of the late Director for them to have the necessary fortitude to bear the great loss.
‘Oyekanmi was on official assignment within the metropolis when he met his untimely death in the hands of his assailants. I was devastated and extremely shocked upon receiving news of the cold-blooded murder of Oyekanmi, in the hands of criminal elements and enemies of our State’, Abiodun lamented.
“It is indeed a collosal loss for our administration to have lost such dedicated, truthful, and diligent official; his assailants have murdered sleep and will be flushed out immediately from wherever they might be hiding’, he wrote.
‘I have directed all security agencies in the State to smoke the criminals out instantly and make them to face the full wrath of the law. I therefore want to assure the entire workforce and residents in the state that never will such calamity befall our dear state again’, he added.
‘I pray for the repose of his soul and for God’s protection over the family he left behind. Obviously, he is going to be sorely missed by his relatives, colleagues and the government he meritoriously served till death,” the statement read.
Penpushing reports that the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, on Wednesday evening, led a government delegation to the deceased house to commiserate with his family.
