Gunmen kill three police officers at check point in Anambra state
Gunmen on Sunday attacked police operational vehicle on the Ukaegbu /Ezeiweka Road in Onitsha, a commercial town of Anambra State, killing three officers and inflicting injuries on two others.
Penpushing reports that, the development resulted in a chaotic as many residents were seen running helter-skelter, while two corpses were noticed lying in the middle of the road, and a police truck engulfed by fire at the scene.
The report has it that the officers were attacked around 9 a.m, while a resident was quoted saying that there was suspicion that the gunmen may be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB).
Penpushing further reports that, the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident, while it was learnt that the officers were on security checks on the road before the attack.
