Gunmen kill Catholic priest
Gunmen have shot dead a Catholic priest, Tobias Okonkwo on Thursday along Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State
Penpushing reports that the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Raphael Ezeogu, who is also a catholic priest confirmed this sad development in a statement on Friday, adding that the incident occurred around 7pm and 8pm
The chancellor prayed for the repose of the cleric’s soul, who was also a pharmacist, hailed from Ekwulumili in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state, and had equally served as the manager of the various schools of nursing such as Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Ihiala.
Penpushing further reports that the Chancellor as at the time of filing this report said the unidentified assailants were yet to be located, explaining that the funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course
“He (Okonkwo) was shot dead by unidentified assailants, at Ihiala, along Onitsha-Owerri Expressway around 7pm and 8pm (on Thursday). Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course’, the chancellor said.
Penpushing also reports the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer Tochukwu Ikenga, a superintendent of police when contacted said he was unaware of the incident, as there was no report of such before him.
