Gunmen kidnap traditional ruler, 22 others

Gunmen have kidnapped traditional ruler of Yorro in Pupule, Yoro Local Government Area of Taraba State Umaru Nyala alongside a pregnant woman and children in the early hours of Tuesday, when the community was attacked.

Penpushing reports that other victims of the attack include two police officers – a sergeant attached to the monarch and an inspector who was on casual leave, as sources put number of total victims as over twenty

The resident of the community Dabang Major, who escaped that attack disclosed that the bandits who rode motorcycles entered Pupule town at about 1am, and started shooting sporadically from house to house where they abducted the second-class traditional ruler and the other victims.

‘We heard gunshots around 1 a.m. and everybody went into hiding because we knew that the kidnappers were there for abduction. They went from house to house and abducted people including our traditional ruler and a pregnant woman. I was not aware of the number of those abducted until in the morning when I came out to hear that our district head was among the victims’, he said.

Penpushing further reports that sources in the community explained that in the same Pupule axis, around Apawa, an 18-seater Toyota bus was found abandoned with no passengers inside as at last Saturday.

The police source however, said they suspect that the occupants were kidnapped by bandits on Friday night and evacuated to the bush, just as the Taraba State Police Command Public Relations Officer Usman Abdullahi confirmed the incident.

Penpushing also reports that the police spokesperson stated that armed police officers have been deployed to the area to ensure the victims are rescued unhurt, stressing that the security investigation was in progress to equally unveil the suspected criminals
