Bauchi Governor tests positive to coronavirus, as Atiku’s son denies contact with him
The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has tested positive for coronavirus following a test conducted on him, having claimed that he shook hand with son of the former Vice President son, Muhammed Atiku Abubakar, when they boarded same flight.
Penpushing reports that, the son of Atiku had however, debunked the Governor’s claim, as sources said the junior Atiku said the Governor was lying about how he contracted coronavirus, adding that the Governor sat on one side of the aisle, while he was on another side with his wife, stressing, “we greeted but never shook hands,” .
The Governor, it is recalled had announced his decision to self-isolate on his suspicion he may have contracted the virus, and ironically after he went for the test alongside his entourage, the result affirmed that he had contracted the virus.
Penpushing further reports that the Governor spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, in a statement on Tuesday, disclosed that only his boss tested positive out of the six samples collected by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
“This is to inform the general public that the results of the six initial tests carried out by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on his excellency, Sen Bala Mohammed, his family and aides that accompanied him to Lagos is out,” the statement said.
“Of the six initial tests carried out, one sample was confirmed positive of COVID-19. The positive result happens to be that of his Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State’.
“At this point, it should be noted that the governor is on self-isolation as his doctors and officials from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) have taken full charge of his quarantine”, the statement added
“His excellency solicits for prayers from all and requests that all those who had contact with him or anyone known to have the same medical condition to go for test immediately in order to avert further spread of COVID-19 epidemic,” the statement read.
Penpushing also reports that, the Governor is the second top government official to test positive for the virus after Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Mohammed Buhari.
Meanwhile, a family member of the Atikus, while corroborating the son of the former Vice President explanation said, “It was, therefore, surprising that the governor in his statements never mentioned that he travelled to Germany where he met many business partners and investors. Why did he hide such important aspect of his movement and the emphasis was on a handshake that never happened.”
