Gunmen attack police checkpoint, kill two officers
Gunmen on Sunday attacked a checkpoint along Kenyatta Road, near the Main gate of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State allegedly killing two police officers.
Penpushing reports that eye witness account said the gunmen, on arrival at the check point at about 11:27 a.m. opened fire on the officers who were manning the checkpoint, killing two of them at the spot.
The witness confirmed that two policemen were killed by the gunmen, adding that two other officers escaped with gunshot injuries, while residents and passerby nearby the check point took to their heels following sporadic shooting by the bandits.
Penpushing further reports that a circulating video said to have been recorded after the incident showed two bodies of the slain officers spotted in the area, while one body was lying along the road, the second body was seen inside a gutter near the scene of the attack.
The Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer Daniel Ndukwe, as at the time of filing this report was yet to make official comments or statement about the sad development
