Gunmen attack police check point, kill policeman
Gunmen have attacked a police checkpoint in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra, Nigeria’s South-East, killing one police officer, during a gun duel,which, however forced the bandits to flee the scene
Penpushing reports that, the incident occurred on Sunday, while the residents, who had gathered to have a glance at the victim, scampered for safety when the gunmen appeared to have returned to the scene, shooting sporadically
The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed the incident said the attack occurred at about 12: 50 p.m. lamenting that aside from the killed police officer, another was fatally injured
Penpushing further reports that, Ikenga said the command had intensified patrol in the area to track down the suspects, while in a related development, gunmen also attacked the Onitsha branch of the Anambra State Broadcasting Service (ABS).
The official of the station owned by the state government, but who does not want his name in print, confirmed the attack which he said happened in the early hours of Monday,explaining that no life was not lost
Penpushing also reports that, the official said the gunmen, however razed the company’s car and another vehicle parked in the facility belonging to another official of the company who worked overnight.
