Gunmen attack Correctional facility in Oyo State

The correctional facility in Abolongo, area in Oyo town, Oyo State has been attacked by unknown gunmen, while some inmates were allegedly set free after the attackers were said to have overpowered the prison officials and security operatives attached to the facility.
Penpushing reports that, sources said the incident occurred Friday night, when the gunmen stormed the facility at about 10pm, throwing grenades to scare away the officials and forcefully gain access, a development which forced officials running helter skelter for safety.
The motives behind the attack as at the time of filing this report was not clear, and it could also not be confirmed if there are casualties or level of the damage to the facility, however, it was gathered that other security agencies have since mobilized their personnel to support men of the service in tracking down the gunmen and rearresting prisoners.
Penpushing further reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Olanrewaju Anjorin confirmed the attack on Saturday in a telephone conversation, saying that the senior officers of the Command were on their way to assess the level of damage.
“It has been confirmed that the attack actually happened, and right now, the Comptroller of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and other top officers are assessing the situation, but I can confirm to you that the incident actually happened”
