Gunmen abduct entrepreneur in Akwa Ibom state
An entrepreneur, Benjamin Unwuka, who owns Obico Shoppers Mall at Uqua Road, Eket has been abducted by gunmen in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, as a family member of the victim said he was abducted at about 11:30 p.m. June 30, 2024, on his way back from his shop.
Penpushing reports that the family source explained that the gunmen, driving a black, unregistered Toyota Corolla car, trailed the victim from Uqua Road, accosted him on Afaha Eket Road and whisked him away at gunpoint to an unknown destination, adding that the abductors as at the time of filing this report were yet to establish contact with members of the family.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command Public Relations Officer Timfon John, confirmed the incident on Tuesday explaining that the victim was abducted on Sunday night, adding that police have deployed operatives to strategic locations to secure the release of the victim unhurt and arrest his abductors.
Penpushing further reports that John, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said as at the time of this report that the abductors were yet to establish contact with members of the family, just as findings showed that there has been an increase in abductions for ransom lately in Akwa Ibom state, with some of them resulting in fatalities.
