Gunmen abduct eight National Youth Service Corps members

Gunmen have abducted eight members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) along a highway in Zamfara State, while traveling inside AKTC bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State en route Zamfara State.

Penpushing reports that the victims were on their way to take part in the mandatory national service when their vehicle was intercepted along a highway in Zamfara by the gunmen who offloaded them from the bus and taken them into the bush.

The source in the transport company who confirmed on Monday said the incident occurred on Saturday adding that the corps members were 11 in number, while three  of them narrowly escaped from the gunmen.

‘The corps members were offloaded (from the bus) and taken into the bush,” he said. “The police have recovered the bus. They left here (Uyo) on Friday, and slept over in Abuja. It was when they were proceeding to Sokoto that they were kidnapped,” he said.

Penpushing further reports that the source explained that apart from the eight corps members, the driver of the bus was also abducted, adding that as at the time of filing this report, the incident had been reported to government authorities and security agencies.

The Zamfara State Police Command Public Relations Officer Yazid Abubakar as at Monday morning of filing this report was yet to confirm or issue any official statement over the worrisome development which occurred on Saturday.

Penpushing also reports that in similar vein, as at the time of filing this report the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) authorities, nor the Public Relations Officer, Eddy Megwa could not be reach for their reactions and comments
