Bloody Sallah: Customs allegedly kills four, injures one in Iseyin town

The Sallah ceremony recorded tragedy on Thursday in Iseyin town of Oyo State, as four persons were allegedly killed, and one critically injured as a result of stray bullets said to have being traced to customs officials said to be after suspected smugglers.

Penpushing reports that, the alleged smugglers were intercepted at a border town, while  men of the Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) shot sporadically to air, and in the process stray bullets hit some residents said to be in the mood of Sallah celebration.

The sad development caused pandemonium in the community as family and friends of those affected embarked on protest, while the alleged men of the Nigerian Customs Service(NCS) managed to escape from the scene.

Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that indiscriminate shooting by the Nigerian Customs Personnel recently led to a face-off between them and members of the proscribed Nigerian Union of Transport Workers (NURTW), as the Chairman of the Union in Iseyin was hit by a shot from the customs officers.

The Public Relation Officers of the Oyo/Osun Area Command of NCS, Kayode Wey when contacted denied knowledge of the incident, stating that he was not sure if the customs are from his command.

Penpushing also reports that the customs spokesman, as at the time of filing this report, however promised to get back to journalists as soon as he has information concerning the incident.
