Gunman kills Nigerian passenger at Canada bus terminal

Gunman has shot and killed a 46-year-old Nigerian, Osemwengie Irorere, inside a bus at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal, located on the Yorkdale Road and Allen Road area of Toronto, Canada.

Penpushing reports that the Toronto Police Service confirmed the incident said to have occurred last Sunday at about 7 p.m. and gave identity of the suspect as a 40-year-old suspect Tyrel Gibson, who has been charged with first-degree murder.

“On Sunday, January 4, 2026, at approximately 7 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in the Yorkdale Road and Allen Road area’, the police said.

“It is alleged that the victim and the suspect both boarded a GO bus at the terminal, where the suspect shot the victim before fleeing the area on foot. Officers arrived at the scene and located the male victim suffering from a gunshot wound’.

‘Life-saving measures were performed, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.The suspect was located and arrested by officers a short time later, and a firearm was recovered. The victim has been identified as Osemwengie Irorere, 46, of Nigeria.”

Penpushing further reports that the police in a statement added that investigators had earlier announced the arrest of Gibson, who is from Toronto, and scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West

The incident comes less than two weeks after another Nigerian, John Onetufo, was stabbed to death in the Lewisham area of London on New Year’s Eve, and following a distress call to the police, paramedics who arrived at the scene reportedly made efforts to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Penpushing also reports that the United Kingdom Metropolitan Police later confirmed that one of the suspects arrested in connection with the murder has been charged in court.
