Grand Finale of Egba Dialect Debate, Choral competition holds in Abeokuta
The 4th Annual Egba Dialect Debate and Choral Competition for Secondary Schools in Ogun Central Senatorial District of Ogun State was held on Wednesday,aimed to preserved culture and heritage of the Egba community.
Penpushing reports that, the competition sponsored by Senator Lanre Tejuoso took place at the auditorium of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, and had in attendance number of students from various schools in the zone as participants.
The debate topic of the grand finale is ‘Drug Abuse and Addiction by Nigerian Youth: Causes, Impact and Consequences”, while the participants, religiously handled the topic in Egba dialect
Penpushing further reports that, participating schools in the grand finale include: Asero High School, Adele High School,Orile-Iporo, African Church Grammar School, Premier Grammar School, Egba Owode High School, Egba High School, Abeokuta Girls Grammar School, Nawaurdeen Grammar School and Adeoye Lambo School
The sponsor, who is a Prince of Oke-Ona-Egba, in his speech pointed out that, he embarked on the project for the progress of Egbaland and in ensuring that the dialect does not go into extinction among the youths.
“The only way we can achieve this is that we our children our children to actually come out of their comfort place and have competitions like this and come and show their capacity to deliver their messages in Egba dialect”’, he said.
The Senator at the events which parades traditional rulers and stakeholders in education, equally called on parents, guardians and community on need to encourage their children to learn and speaks their languages, with focus on dialects
Penpushing also reports that, Tejuoso on the theme of the competition explained that the choice was aimed to tackle drug abuse and addiction among the youths and society at large, expressing optimism of the outcome of the project
