Governor Sanwo-Olu arrests ‘soldier’ plying one-way

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday personally effected the arrest an Okada rider who claimed to be a soldier for allegedly driving against traffic along the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway of the state.

Penpushing reports Sanwo-Olu was sighted in a circulating video declaring that the alleged a lance corporal in the Army is a useless boy, who should be put in custody for violating the traffic regulations by plying one-way

“Can you imagine this one telling me that he is an Army officer? Well, that is the more reason you will be locked up. Put him there let your father come and rescue you. Get in there. Useless boy. You are telling me you are a soldier’, Sanwo fumed

Penpushing further reports that Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Wale Ajetunmobi also corroborated Sanwo=Olu action in the tweeted a viral video of the incident on X, where the suspect was claiming to an army

The Governor was equally seen in the video addressing a female passenger, blaming her and others for risking their lives in patronizing the lawless commercial motocylists, blaming them for encourage the Okada riders in perpetrating illegality on the road

“You people are the ones causing this. Maybe I should arrest two of you and put you in the guardroom. You are entering Okada, and they are taking one way. Is it good? And they will now hit you; you will go and fall, and you die; they will say the government killed you’, Sanwo-Olu said

Penpushing also reports that Lagos State Government in June 2023 it is recalled reiterated that the ban on commercial motorcycles popularly called ‘Okada’ in 10 local government areas and 15 local council development areas in the metropolis persists.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, made the declaration while on a tour of some restricted areas within the state where large numbers of motorcyclists had resumed operations.

Penpushing reports that Giwa in a statement had reaffirmed the state government’s ban on Okada in the local councils which include Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu, Mushin, Apapa, Ikeja and Lagos Island, while other affected areas are Lagos Mainland, Surulere and Eti-Osa as well as the Local Council Development Areas under them which are Ojodu, Onigbongbo, Lagos Island East, Yaba and Coker Aguda.

Penpushing further reports that these include Itire-Ikate, Eti-Osa West, Iru Victoria Island, Ikoyi-Obalende, Ikosi-Isheri, Agboyi-Ketu, Isolo, Ejigbo, Bariga and Odi-Olowo while the statement urged both riders and passengers to keep off.

The statement in the same vein, implored the general public to comply as both the riders and passengers are both liable to three years in prison if apprehended and prosecuted with their motorcycles impounded and crushed in the public view.
