Governor Otti suspends permanent secretaries, head of service in Abia state

The Abia State Governor Alex Otti has ordered the suspension of almost all the Permanent Secretaries and the Head of Service in the state’s civil service, as the government is said to be investigating the activities of the previous administration in the State

Penpushing reports that the suspension was contained in a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Kazie Uko, on Thursday, explaining that the decision followed the inauguration of a judicial panel of inquiry tasked with recovering government properties and funds from past officials who served under the former Governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu.

The statement added that the Governor in the same vein approved the appointment of Joy Maduka as Acting Head of Service (HoS) , who was serving as the Director, Ministry of Education, and now to replace the suspended Head of Service.

‘The Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has directed the immediate suspension of the head of service and all permanent secretaries in the state civil service. All the (affected) permanent secretaries are by this notice directed to hand over to the most senior director in the respective ministries, department and agencies’, the statement reads

Penpushing further reports that the statement emphasized that the suspension of the officials had taken immediate effect, notifying all affected officials directed to handover to the most senior Director in the respective ministries, department and agencies

Meanwhile, the statement, however, clarified that the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, Johnpedro Irokansi, and the State Solicitor-General, Uzoamaka Ikonne, were exempted from the suspension order which takes immediate effect
