GOVERNOR AMOSUN PLEDGES ADEQUATE SECURITY AT POLL
The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, said that the State Government really understood the importance of the summit to the purpose of the upcoming general elections.
“In Ogun State, security remains one of the major focus and for the purpose, the state government is putting down enough funds for the private sector for the purpose of security enhancement, even though we also appreciate the participation of different security agencies because without them nothing is possible,
“Security is not a matter of guns and bullets, we are also determined to fight the master of criminality, and as we approach the general elections, we need to ensure the security of lives and properties, be it that security is a global issue and Nigeria is not left out of it” he said.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu in his keynote address, expressed the plans of the police to safeguard the length and breadth of the state during and after the elections, and to prevent any form of electoral irregularities.
He said, “In Ogun State, there is what we called “trend assessment” and deployment of police personnel to vulnerable areas which have been carried out to prevent and leave any form of participation of political thuggery that can lead to disturbance of public peace in the state, all political parties are hereby advised to abide by Electoral act 2018 (as ammended) and play the game according to the rules’
“They are to prevail on their flagbearers, members, supporters and fans not to engage in any act or conduct that will incite violence or disturbance of public peace anywhere in the state during the campaign and beyond’, he emphasised.
The Police boss, also stated the position of his men to remain apolitical, and non-partisan, saying that they will not engage in any political activities but to remain resolute and focused, to provide adequate security for all political parties and stakeholders throughout the electioneering period.
Penpushing further reports that, Iliyasu also called on traditional and religious leaders, parents, guardians, and public officer holders to monitor their children and warn them against being used for the disturbance of public peace, during the period of campaigns and beyond.
