Nigerian lawmaker, Afolabi Afuape returns to classroom to teach students during summer class

A member of House of Representatives, Hon Afolabi Afuape representing Ogun State at the National Assembly on Friday returned to classroom to exhibit his teaching prowess, as he taught students undergoing summer class in Abeokuta, the State Capital.

Penpushing reports that Afuape who is the initiator of the summer class which has over 600 beneficiaries  took up teaching of the students comprising Senior Secondary School (SS1, SS2 and SS3), which was held at St Peter School, located within the premises of St Pater Cathedral Church in the town.

The federal lawmaker who was a former lecturer at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, was seen displaying his academic excellence and teaching to the students, who in returns listened attentively to the lecture.

Penpushing further reports that Afuape, a former commissioner in Ogun State, who focused on Economics teaching at the class, also donated teaching materials which include desks and chairs to the school.

The Nigerian lawmaker speaking with journalists during an interview explained that he established the summer class, as his way of given back to the society, and to pave way for better future for the students, particularly the indigents.

‘I am doing this because of my target which is to go beyond this, and the project to leave after me. My background also motivates me. It is going to be an annual programme, we must have time for the students because they are future leaders’, he added

Penpushing also reports that Afuape disclosed that he would also offer scholarship to students found out to be academically brilliant, adding that the foundation will send them to university for courses of their choice.

‘We want to make it yearly and competitive. Giving back to the society in our own little way. If we encourage them, they will surpass us. It is also a way to support the state government. It has nothing to do with politics. The project will outlive me’, Afuape emphasized
