Gospel Faith Mission International Church risks sanction for allegedly taking over major road as car park during service
The Gospel Faith Mission International Church (GOFAMINT) in Sokori area of Abeokuta, may face sanction for illegally turning a major road into car park during its church service.
Penpushing reports that investigation showed that church members have resorted to take over two of the lanes on the busy road, as they park their vehicles each time they have church service, a development found to be causing traffic challenges on the road.
The church is situated opposite the pedestrian bridge, while the illegal act is known to be contrary to the traffic rules which frown at indiscriminate parking of vehicles, a crime which attract penalties for offenders.
Penpushing further reports that some residents and motorists who spoke with Penpushing expressed displeasure over the development, pointing out that the area is prone to accident, in view of what they described as reckless parking of vehicles.
‘Some people are so lawless, why should anybody take over major road like this, and turn into a car park. Is the church above the law of the land? Who gave them the audacity to be doing this? I think government should address the issue before it gets out of hand. Honestly, this is uncalled for, coming from a church’, a resident of the area said.
Penpushing also reports that it was observed that the indiscriminate parking of vehicles now poses danger to pedestrians, who have to maneuver their way in between oncoming vehicles and the left space on the road.
The number of motorists who spoke with Penpushing called on the authorities of the the Ogun State Traffic Compliance Corps(TRACE) and the State Park Management to take time in handling the absurd development.
Penpushing reports that attempt to reach the leadership of the church was unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report, but two officials of the church approached Penpushing media when sighted taking photograph of the cars as illegally parked on the road.
The church officials asked for the mission of Penpushing taking the pictures of the affected area with the church, and having being told, the duo thereafter walked away, with no further enquiry.
