Four worshippers die as mosque collapses in Kaduna State

Four Islamic worshippers have been reported dead as well as seven others sustained various degree of injuries in a mosque that collapsed on them in Zaria, Kaduna State, while  observing the Asr prayer around 4 p.m on Fridays

Penpushing reports that the Emir of Zazzau Ahmed Bamalli, who confirmed the incident they had earlier observed a crack on the wall of the mosque a day before the collapse, and there was plan to deploy a team of engineers to effect repairs

‘We had earlier observed a crack on the wall of the mosque yesterday, and were planning to deploy a team of civil engineers to effect repairs when this unfortunate incident happened’, the Emir was quoted saying

Penpushing further reports that the Emir condoled with the families of the deceased and directed that people pray outside the mosque pending when the mosque would be rebuilt, and also directed that the funeral prayer of all the corpses be observed by 8.30 p.m. at the emir’s palace on Friday.

The findings, however, showed that the Zazzau emirate Juma’at mosque is as old as the emirate itself, a mosque noted as where many emirs pray in it, just as a resident was of the conviction that the mosque is due for rebuilding.

Penpushing also reports that at the scene of the mosque collapse, Murtala Kwarbai, equally confirmed that the building collapsed on worshippers, adding that he was about to join the congregation when the building caved in

‘I was not inside but I was close to the mosque about to join the congregation when the building fell on worshippers. Some people sustained injuries and about four died. The Zazzau emirate Juma’at mosque is as old as the emirate itself. It is an ancient mosque where many emirs pray in it. I think the mosque is due for rebuilding’, Kwarbai said.
