Former World Court Judge, Bola Ajibola dies preparing to attend Ramadan lecture
The former World Court Judge, Justice Bola Ajibola has died while he was billed to attend a Ramadan lecture being organized by the Islamic Mission for Africa (IMA), where he was expected to deliver a speech.
Penpushing reports that the lecture titled ‘Goodness to Parents and Relatives: A Panacea for Societal Ills’ is to be chaired by Sheikh Hamid Olanrewaju and Keynote address by Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr(Mrs) Noimot Oyedele-Salako
The sudden death of founder of Islamic Mission for Africa (IMA), however, occurred in the early hours of Sunday, which was made known in a statement signed by his eldest son, Segun Ajibola, in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital
“With very deep heart and gratitude to Almighty Allah, Our Dad, Prince Bola Ajibola, departed this world over midnight. May Almighty Allah bless him with Aljanah Firdaus”, the statement stated
Penpushing further reports that Ajibola died at 89 after an illness associated with old age, was former judge of the International Court of Justice, Hague, Netherlands, and a former Attorney-General of Nigeria.
The deceased was the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) from 1984 to 1985, was also one of five commissioners on the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission, organized through the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
Penpushing also reports that the late renowned Justice was the High Commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom between 1999 and 2002, and founded the Crescent University, Abeokuta and an Islamic organisation, Islamic Movement for Africa (IMA).
The early caller at the deceased private residence located in Asero area of Abeokuta, was his childhood friend and former Nigeria’s President Olusegun Obasanjo, to commiserate with the bereaved, just as the family source said the remains of Ajibola will be committed to mother earth in line with Islamic injuction within the premises of the Islamic Mission for Africa (IMA) on Sunday
Penpushing reports that Chairman Islamic Mission for Africa(IMA) Working Committee,Alhaji Muyideen Salawu in his welcome address said the late Ajibola was a notable religious leader who served Allah and humanity with passion, as well as spending good life
The Ramadan lecture, however, took place in low keyed in honour of the deceased, and some notable Islamic leaders at the events include: Alhaji Muyideen Salau, Alhaji Saubana Adegbite, Chief Alani Opaleye,Alhaji Tunji Kalejaiye, Sheikkh Morufudeen, Alhaji Abdul Surbur Bimpe Awaiye and Engr Wale Yusuff among others
