
Former Student of Egba Obafemi Community Grammar School, Lateef Oridota launches educational foundation for indigent students
A retired Ogun State Civil Servant and old student of Egba -Obafemi Community Grammar School, Obafemi, located in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State, Alhaji Lateef Oridota has unveiled an outfit to promote educational empowerment for indigent children.
Penpushing reports that the Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO), known as Promoting Educational for Indigent Children (PERFIC), was launched on June 11, 2025 as part of activities to mark 60th birthday of Oridota.
The ceremony held at Alake Millenium Hall of Abeokuta Club situated along Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta, was graced bY dignitaries within and outside Ogun State which include secondary school colleagues of the celebrator.
Penpushing further reports that the chairman of the occasion was Alhaji Ambali Ishola, while Special Guest of Honour was Alhaji Jimoh Popoola, popularly called Popson, as well as Dr (Mrs) Waliat Adeyemo as Chairlady and Oba Oluwanbe Sogaolu(Olu of Orile-Imo as Royal father of the day
The programmes include unveiling of the logo of the project, goodwill messages, donations for Promoting Educational for Indigent Children (PERFIC), for its take-off, as well as cutting of birthday cake of the celebrators
Penpushing also reports that others group which grace the occasion include Ansar-Du-Deen Society, Ota Local Government Education Authority Cooperative Society, Egba Coterie Circle, Associates from Ifetedo Blessing Community, Associates from Bode Olude/Ilupeju Community, Ma Sha Allahu Sisters and Associates from Ado-Odo/Ota.
The initiator of the project explained that the foundation was conceived for the purpose of rendering selfless services to assist the young ones and ensure that no child is not in school due to the social status of the parents.
Penpushing reports that he stated that the vision statement of the foundation is to grow as one of the foremost platforms that would ensure that no child is denied education and opportunity to attain his potential due to his background.
‘The mission statement is to advocate, solicit, collaborate, partner and assist as available, to link and ensure that basis resources are made available to as many indigent children as possible, to see them through schooling and acquisition of required skills to break the cycle of poverty’, Oridota added.
Penpushing further reports that he said strategies are sensitization and advocacy to create more awareness on the need to give more attention to children with indigent background by government and its agencies, donor agencies and philanthropists among others.
The convener of the project stated that the target of the programme for a start, considering the limited resources are pupils and students of public primary and secondary schools.
Penpushing also reports that Oridota explained that the management of the foundation shall profile selected beneficiaries based on information collated from schools and select without bias for gender, ethnic or religious background of the pupils.
The initiator added that on sourcing for resources there would be sacrifice on the part of the convener and his team from the meagre resources available, and the team shall link up with the philanthropists, foundations and people of goodwill to take over sponsorship of many identified likely beneficiaries under the banner of the organization
‘Sourcing for resources would cover request for sponsorship for direct purchase of textbooks, notebooks, technical materials, school bags, uniforms and payment of examination fees’, Oridoda stressed.
Penpushing reports that he said management structure of Promoting Educational for Indigent Children (PERFIC), provide for a Board of Trustees (BOT), as well as management team which would unveil subsequent outings, adding that emphasis would not be on monetary donations alone
