Former Inspector-General, Solomon Arase dies at 69
The Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase has been reported dead at 69 at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following an undisclosed ailment.
Penpushing reports that no official confirmation of the demise as at the time of filing this report, but sources said he was recently at a private ceremony in Rabat in Morrocco where he reportedly developed health complications.
The sources added that the former police boss was in coma and subsequently flown back to Nigeria and admitted at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja, where he briefly regained consciousness before passing away
Penpushing further reports that the photograph of Arase in Morrocco which was his last social outing before his death showed that he was in high spirit and seen laughing and gallantly exchanging pleasantries with another guest
The deceased was Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, who was appointed to the position in April 2015 by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, after his retirement in 2016, he continued to serve the nation in various capacities.
Penpushing also reports that he was Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), a role he assumed in January 2023 under President Muhammadu Buhari, but was relieved of the position in June 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.
The late Arase was a seasoned intelligence officer, once led the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the police force’s apex intelligence unit, and equally served as Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State.
Penpushing reports that he later served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of intelligence, while his international service included a stint in Namibia on a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission.
